Home Rules
- Any permanent damage to my apartment and property, caused by a student or family member, will be fixed at the cost of that family. Damage includes, but not limited to: ripping the upholstery of my furniture, holes in walls, breaking furniture or the TV, etc.
- All food must be eaten in the kitchen. I will keep the table clear so food can be eaten there.
- I will allow students and family to drink water from my cups and faucet, but I've had a problem with students asking for food and leaving garbage and crumbs on the carpet regularly. I will no longer provide snacks to students. Please feed them or provide a snack before lessons. Families will be charged $5 if I see that food has been stolen. (Which I have been able to tell, because some kids aren't as sneaky as they think.)
Studio Rules
Things I expect from the parent/guardian:
- Make sure student is on time to lessons every week (five-minute grace period).
- Help student with any reading or difficulty in assignments I am giving.
- Remind student to practice 5 times per week (between lessons).
- Be available to listen to your student for an informal audience practice.
- Purchase a lesson binder, notebook, and necessary music.
- Make sure payments are paid by the 5th of each month
Things I expect from the student:
- Practice 5 days a week (between lessons) including:
- Going over theory, notes, scales, finger patterns, and other technique
- Practicing assigned songs
- Audience performance (informal for family, friends, etc.)
- Recording yourself play and listening to your recording
- Come to lessons on time and prepared with music, flashcards, your binder, lesson notebook, and any other assignments and tools.
- Behave appropriately in my home and with my personal belongings.
- Wash hands before each lesson.
Things to expect from me:
- Teach student to learn their instrument with fun and purposeful lessons.
- Teach at the speed or rate of the student; however, encourage the student to push harder each week to accomplish musical abilities and understanding.
- Give a lesson for the amount of time the student signed up for.
- Keep instruments and tools clean and germ free.
- Gently remind parent/guardian of expectations if it lacks a little.
- Don’t get frustrated with students for misbehavior or not practicing.
- Treat student’s instrument with upmost care and respect.
- Treat student and family with upmost care and respect.
- Make exceptions for special circumstances.
Recitals:
- These are not required for students to perform in. I realize that students may have fear of performing in front of large groups. However, I will hold recitals to help students appreciate the music of others and showcase their skills to a larger audience. A recital fee is not required as it will count towards the monthly fee. However, parental help in donations for refreshments and programs is requested.
- The upfront fee for extra rehearsals and music for group numbers will be $30 total.
Tuition and Payment Expectations:
- Starting September 1, 2018 - All students will be required to pay $15/year to cover the cost of music books that I purchase for recitals, printing & copying materials, specific arrangements, and cleaning/sanitizing materials. No refunds for this expense.
- Tuition shall be paid by the 5th day of each month via PayPal, venmo, cash, or check.
- My email for PayPal is rebekahsmusicstudio@gmail.com or you can pay directly from your monthly invoice which has a convienence fee.
- My Venmo username is Rebekah Marie Barker.
- A $5 late fee per student is added for any payments made after the 5th of each month.
- The reason behind this is because this is my job. It helps me pay my monthly bills, if it’s late, I must also pay a late fee in my bills.
- There are only two circumstances in which a refund may be presented. (See termination expectations and exceptions.)
Student Attendance:
- Students may need to miss a lesson due to sickness, holiday, vacation, family circumstances, etc. Here is what is included in your monthly tuition:
- September –May
- 29 weekly lessons
- 2 recitals
- Can miss up to 8 lessons
- June – August
- 10 weekly lessons
- Can miss 3 lessons during the summer
- If the student misses more lessons than permitted to miss, there will be no refund of any sort. On the other hand, if the student does not miss a lesson, then those lessons may be taught “free of charge”.
- When a student misses a lesson, please inform me before, if possible, or have a valid reason for after the fact.
- If wanted/needed (and possible) by both parties, a lesson can be rescheduled for another day during the same week as a missed lesson. (In which it would not count as a missed lesson).
- Student attendance is recorded on the teacher’s mymusicstaff calendar.
Teacher Attendance:
- At times I may need to miss a lesson due to sickness, vacation, family circumstances, etc. In these cases, it will count as a missed lesson. However, majority of the time, I do try to reschedule lessons so that a missed lesson can be used by the student rather than myself.
- I will always notify the parent/guardian in a timely manner, if I must miss a lesson or reschedule.
Termination:
- If music lessons are terminated because of the teacher not upholding her end of the contract, then she will refund the money equivalent for the first and last lesson with the student.
- If music lessons are terminated because the parent/guardian or student does not comply with the expectations, then the teacher is not required to refund money.
- If termination occurs for a reason unrelated to the expectations, the teacher is not required to refund money.
Exceptions to Termination or Expectations:
- After one trial month of lessons (or 4 lessons), If the student is having difficulty learning music because he/she is too young and not quite comprehending what is being taught, a refund will be given for that month.
- Any lessons after the “trial month” must be paid in full by the parent/guardian at the beginning of the month.
- Termination or exceptions may occur in the case of any major event for either party (major illness, having a baby, funeral, vacation, school, etc.).
- Please come to the teacher with any concerns because she is willing to make exceptions.
- In any case there is a new scheduling conflict and music lessons are discontinued, the teacher shall not owe any money to the parent/guardian and the parent/guardian will need to have paid for all lessons by the very last lesson.
